Description

How to create powerful narratives using the myths that link us all is the subject of this workshop, recorded live at a Writers' League of Texas seminar. The instructor, Christopher Vogler, was inspired by the mythic studies of Joseph Campbell and the depth psychology of Carl G. Jung. He wrote a seven-page memo of those concepts for the Walt Disney Company, where he was working as a story analyst. The memo was a hit and eventually became his best-selling book The Writer's Journey.

Reviews

AudioFile Magazine...
Vogler's live presentation on using classic structures found in mythology to drive stories walks both sides of a narrow line. Live presentations delivered in audiobook form either capture the dynamism of the subject matter or fail to convey a "must see" performance. Vogler delivers both. All storytellers can benefit from Vogler's lessons, yet an abridged, more thoughtful, delineation of his methods would serve better. Clocking in at three-plus hours, this book could easily be trimmed to less than two by excising needless repetition and collecting better real-life examples hidden in Vogler's meandering lecture.
